Good Gravy...50 straight days over 90 degrees!!!! Finally got out today as it was only 80! Hit an old park that I soon found out was heavily pounded. Got mostly trash out of there. I moved on to the sidewalk strips in front of the homes surrounding the park and pulled quite a few modern State Quarters. I am going to have to work harder on getting permissions on private property as alot of my nearby old neighborhood parks and sidewalk strips have been heavily hunted.
I will probably put up a video of today's finds soon.

What to do????
Just what is one to do when it feels like the seventh level of Hades outside with humidity so high you could swim in the air?
Not about to go out and swing. However I did go to Lowes and find a nice AWP pouch for $9 to keep me from sticking muddy trash in my pockets!

Don't be a putz!
Sitting here not able to get out and swing due to 90deg plus humidity it feels like 103deg outside.
I was looking through articles related to metal detecting, and came across an article that just irritated the crap out of me.
The article is talking about a crime that happened within the past several weeks, where people went on to a historic battlefield in Virginia, and sloppily dug up artifacts on National Park Service property!
In the press release from the NPS, it clearly stated that they believe the individuals used metal detectors and digging tools to extract historical artifacts in order to sell.
Let me draw a parallel with another of my hobbies, guns. When a gun owner goes out and does something stupid and or illegal with a gun, they make all gun owners look bad. They are a detriment to the hobby and makes everyone who likes to hunt or put holes in paper look to the uninitiated to be irresponsible.
The exact same can be said for the hobby of metal detecting. Please Please Please get permission, be polite, be responsible, never hunt where it is illegal NPS land, TVA land, most state parks.
If you get caught you aren't just hurting yourself, you are hurting all of us!!

1st blog Post and my first adventures in Metal Detecting.
Well to start welcome to my new blog. I decided to start it to follow my adventures or lack thereof in metal detecting, coin shooting, relic hunting, and history in general.
Several months back I was given a metal detector by a family member who became disabled and couldn't use it. Brand new in the box was a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505. Certainly not a top shelf machine, it does have some nice features that some higher end machines do, thus making it perfectly suitable for a beginner such as myself.
My first adventure was a mixed bag of trash and me not knowing the detector that well. I hunted an 1800s church (with permission of course.) and all I got was a couple square nails and some trash.
My second was an old 1920s school that is closed. I toiled all day in some nasty heat for bunk...nada...skunked.
Third was a few weeks ago on vacation to Delaware, once again I baked all day on the well known "Coin Beach" to once again get skunked.
Yesterday things started looking up. I was hunting sidewalk strips in a late 1800s affluent neighborhood, and scored a handful of modern clad, and a dog license. I know this particular neighborhood has a lot to give so I will definitely hit it often. The surprising thing is the sidewalk strips were more fruitful than the community park.
These were my fist adventures up to this point, as long as I have time to hunt I will keep the blog updated.
